Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has put himself firmly in contention for a spot in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be staged in the USA and the Caribbean.
Selectors and experts alike have taken notice of Pant’s return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, following a horrible automobile accident more than a year ago that left him with significant injuries.
Rishabh Pant, 26, escaped a near-fatal collision in December 2022 while making his way from Delhi to Roorkee, his hometown.
The batsman was able to flee with the aid of the villagers when his car struck a divider and caught fire. As Pant battled his way back to full health, more operations and a protracted rehabilitation program at the National Cricket Academy were necessary.

His recent IPL achievements indicate that the southpaw is now prepared to don the Indian colors once more. Pant has 153 runs in five games, including 51 and 55 against the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively. Michael Clarke, the former captain of Australia, showered the batsman with appreciation.
“He’s a wonderful player and everybody is happy that he’s back on the field and we want to see him play for Delhi, but we also want to see him come back and play for India as soon as possible,” the former captain of Australia told Star Sports.
Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, agrees that Pant is fit and playing to the best of his abilities. “As you can all see, he is batting consistently and doing a great job. He has thus far held up well and been in excellent form, particularly when it comes to his batting in the last two games. If the selectors decide to choose him, then give me another week and I’ll be able to respond to that query,” said Ganguly.
Pant’s timely return to form has given the Indian team management plenty to consider, especially with the T20 World Cup set for June 2024. He will have fierce competition from players vying for the second wicketkeeper position, including Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Jitesh Sharma. Pant might have the advantage, though, given his track record of winning matches and the selectors’ confidence in him.
