IPL 2024: In a graceful century against RR, Virat Kohli of RCB equals an unwelcome record

The most notable thing was the criticism of ace RCB batsman Virat Kohli. Many of the performances that the fans saw during the recent intense Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) match between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday pleased them.

In the match, Kohli batted first and amassed an undefeated 113 runs to help his team score 183 runs in the opening half. Although the legendary Indian veteran scored the most runs for his team throughout the match, it’s important to remember that the outstanding batsman reached his century with just 67 deliveries. Notably, he scored his first T20 century against the Rajasthan Royals and his eighth overall.

By balls taken, his knock, however, tied the record for the slowest IPL hundred. Manish Pandey had owned the record before. In the 2009 IPL, the Karnataka-born player made a century off 67 balls against the Deccan Chargers at Centurion.

Jos Buttler, David Warner, and Sachin Tendulkar, who have each completed their tons in 66 deliveries, are next in line. Not to mention that even with a massive first-inning total, Jos Buttler‘s brilliant century led the home team from the front, and the score was still insufficient for the Royal Challenge Bangalore. The Royals won the game by six wickets as a consequence of their successful chase of the target.

Following the first inning, Virat Kohli spoke about the characteristics of the pitch, stating that it was different from what it had initially appeared to be. The great batsman expressed his opinion that he needed to keep the bowlers guessing and that the 183 runs scored were plenty.

“From the outside, the wicket appears very different. You can see that the pace is changing even though it feels flat because the ball is staying on the pitch. Either Faf or Virat have to bat through to the very end. This sum works well on this pitch, in my opinion. According to the Times of India (TOI), Kohli stated, “I am not coming in with any premeditation.”

“I realized that in order to keep the bowlers guessing, I couldn’t get overly aggressive. It’s just a matter of maturity and familiarity with the circumstances. It won’t be simple for the batters since, despite the dew, the surface is dry and uneven. Against Ashwin, I was unable to get beneath the ball. I had to aim straight down the ground since I couldn’t slog towards mid-wicket,” the legendary Indian batsman said.
