Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu gave a great explanation of why players step up under former captain MS Dhoni‘s guidance, as CSK is presently ranked third in the IPL 2024 points standings.

Many cricketers who failed to make the same kind of impression elsewhere, like Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, and Shane Watson, have prospered since joining the Chennai team.

Sidhu was questioned about CSK’s capacity to revitalize careers and Dhoni’s role in supporting young players like Sameer Rizvi as finishers in a Star Sports discussion. Talented children require opportunities, Sidhu said.
“If there are no opportunities, talent is nothing. Children need to be given a chance. Offering an opportunity is one thing; embracing a challenge is the other. Give Rizvi that confidence, please,” Sidhu remarked.
Regarding why players perform better at CSK, Sidhu went on, “How is it that a player who isn’t so good on the other club becomes a whole different player when he plays for Dhoni? Because the person who follows a good leader and inspires faith is that person.”

“A drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of vinegar,” he said, explaining how Dhoni develops future leaders. It follows that placing individuals in their proper roles is of utmost importance. When he bats and finishes, Dhoni is useful. One plus one equals eleven, Jadeja and Dhoni. They are gaining strength by multiples. There is nothing for Dhoni to prove. A leader’s greatest asset is their ability to develop future leaders. He is going to unleash the kids’ potential.”
Navjot Singh Sidhu emphasized how important it is to be a proficient finisher, a position that Dhoni excels at.
The more difficult task comes when you bat for the final six or seven overs, not when you bat at number three or number four. Why are you being tested at that particular moment? You will score one ball and three runs at that point. Two and a half balls, one. Few people possess this skill. It’s difficult to finish what you start, I assure you. The quality of those runs determines whether the team wins or loses; you are not receiving recognition for it,” Sidhu said.
