"Definitely in the conversation for the T20 World Cup," Tom Moody says of Mayank Yadav's chances of being chosen

The IPL 2024 has discovered an incredible pace bowling ability, and it is sweeping the competition. Mayank Yadav of the Lucknow Super Giants has distinguished himself with two consecutive Player of the Match victories. His raw pace and precision have sparked discussions about the 21-year-old’s potential inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Against the Punjab Kings in his IPL debut, Mayank Yadav recorded the fastest delivery of the season with a 3/27 clocking at 155.8 kph. He supported that with fantastic stats, bowling at the fastest pace in the IPL 2024 at 156.7 kph against Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a 3/14 average. Experts have been amazed by his fast speed as well as his crisp lines and variations.

Ignoring the players who are in form would be absurd. Mitchell McClenaghan

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody stated on an ESPNcricinfo show that, given his current form, Mayank Yadav is undoubtedly a contender for the T20 World Cup.

“There’s no denying that he is speaking. Whether you take that chance and punt on him or not is up for debate. You also need to think about the kind of skillset you need in a reserve fast bowler—someone who can bowl at the death or someone who can powerplay—because all those nuanced skill sets matter in a T20 World Cup,” he stated.

Co-panellist Mitchell McClenaghan had similar views, saying, “I think it would be crazy not to look at the players who are in form going into that tournament if his form continues throughout this tournament.” The World Cup begins six days after the Indian Premier League.

“Even if he doesn’t have the caps behind him, he can still be competitive if he maintains this level of play, keeps up his pace throughout the competition, and wins games—he has won his last two games in a row. Long shot, but you never say never,” he continued.

Mayank’s inexperience was acknowledged, but the experts felt that if he keeps up this kind of work throughout the IPL, he should be given a chance to fill the job of reserve fast bowler. Varun Aaron commended Mayank for his maturity and his clean action, which gave him great control for a quick bowler.

“Regardless of the conversation, I believe he should concentrate on one game at a time since it will inevitably support his position. It certainly draws a lot of attention when he works as hard as he did the past two games, but it takes time to pay off. If he puts in a couple more performances, he will definitely be a contender for the T20 World Cup since he is bowling like crazy, Varun stated.

Mayank did not give up a single wide or no-ball during his four overs against RCB, giving up just 14 runs with 17 dot balls. With a combination of speed and length, he dispatched Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, and Rajat Patidar—all dangerous players.
