In the last week of April, India is expected to reveal its 15-man team for the highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies.
Each participating side has until May 25 to make adjustments to their original roster after the International Cricket Council (ICC) deadline for team submissions on May 1.
The tournament will kick off on June 2 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas with a thrilling match between co-hosts USA and Windies. India’s campaign will kick off at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 5 against Ireland. Four days later, the intense match between India and Pakistan, longtime rivals, is set to take place at the same location.
The Hindu cited a top BCCI source as stating, “The Indian team will be selected sometime during the last week of April, the time by which the first half of IPL will be over, and the national selection committee will be in a position to assess the form and fitness of the contenders.”

The source added that the first group of cricket players will fly to New York soon after the Indian Premier League (IPL) league stage ends on May 19.
“The first group of cricket players will depart for New York as soon as the IPL league stage concludes on May 19.” Similar to what happened during the WTC finals last year, the players whose teams won’t make it to the final four will be leaving early, the insider continued.
Furthermore, in the event that any player who is targeted or centrally contracted sustains an injury, the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) medical staff would take care of their case automatically. Additionally, it is mandatory for coaches and physiotherapists to update the NCA on the players’ conditions.
“Of course, the NCA’s Medicine and Sports Science team will take over a player’s case if he is injured, whether they are targeted or centrally contracted. The S&C coaches and physios must also inform NCA on the players who are targeted and centrally contracted (India A, Emerging India). However, BCCI cannot control how many matches players play after they have contracts with teams. There are just four overs in terms of bowlers’ responsibilities, the source added.
