Last year itself Mahi bhai had hinted me about captaincy at some point of time: Ruturaj Gaikwad

In the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) rising player Ruturaj Gaikwad is ready to take on the role of team captain. Gaikwad disclosed in an open discussion how the great MS Dhoni personally gave him the idea of becoming captain.

In retrospect, Gaikwad said that Mahi Bhai had already hinted about becoming captain at some point during their chat last season, so it shouldn’t have surprised him.

“You know that Mahi Bhai made hints regarding captaincy earlier in the year. All he said was, “Be ready.” Gaikwad told BCCI.Tv, “You shouldn’t be surprised by it.

“Gaikwad further elaborated on how Dhoni subtly prepared him for the leadership role, stating, “When we arrived into the camp, he made me engaged in some of the practice match simulations—bback of the mind it was there, a week ago, he told me I have decided this,” revealed Gaikwad.”

Even prior to the formal announcement, Dhoni was clearly in favor of Gaikwad’s new position. “I can’t wait for the new season and new role,” was Dhoni’s mysterious Facebook post on March 4. “Remain tuned” raised rumors over Gaikwad’s leadership.

In reminiscing about the incident, Gaikwad revealed how supporters speculated about Dhoni’s impending captaincy after he posted on social media about his new duty. In response, Gaikwad hinted that there might be more rationale.

“I recall him sharing on social media about taking on the new responsibility. Everyone who asked if I was the new captain was pointing at me. “Perhaps he means something else,” I responded in response to them.

Gaikwad is appreciative of Mahi support, even if he is feeling the weight of this increased job.

“Having him back on the field is a tremendous backbone, in my opinion. There are plenty of things to consider because I have Ajju (Ajinkya Rahane) and Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja). I see no need to make any changes. “I think everything will be fine if you just give the players the freedom they want,” he continued.

One of the games on the first day that is most exciting to anticipate is this one: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis, the current captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), enjoyed a touching moment after Gaikwad’s appointment.

“Who would have imagined, a few years from now, you playing for RCB and leading RCB?” I asked Faf during our conversation. During the throw, you and I shared the stage. There is much to be excited about. It’s one of the most thrilling opening-day games, in my opinion,” he remarked.

Having joined CSK in 2019, Gaikwad has steadily earned his stripes, which has led to his appointment as captain. As he gave thanks and reflected on his journey, Gaikwad emphasized the value of joining a renowned team and winning MS Dhoni’s trust for the captaincy position.

“It feels fantastic. Two causes exist. To begin with, I will be a part of an incredible franchise from the moment my IPL career begins. Second, it says volumes to be able to rely on MS Dhoni in a leadership capacity. The task is undoubtedly ahead, but I am excited about it,” he remarked.

From the beginning, I have found this series to be enjoyable, and as time went on, I began to understand its true purpose and secret to success. What kind of experiences does Mahi Bhai’s franchise have, either with management or support staff? “There is nothing about it that I would change,” Gaikwad said in closing.
