Prior to the Indian Premier League’s (IPL2024) first match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK announced a captaincy change. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the opener, will now lead the team as legendary captain MS Dhoni has resigned from his role.
It is noteworthy that Dhoni said on Facebook ahead of the season that he will be playing a different role in the next competition. “I’m looking forward to the new ‘role’ and the new season.” Stay tuned!” Dhoni posted on March 4 on Facebook.
The stunning revelation was made via CSK’s official Twitter account. Fans uploaded a picture of Ruturaj Gaikwad with the phrase, “OFFICIAL STATEMENT: MS Dhoni hands over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad.”

Dhoni, who captained CSK to five IPL championships in 16 seasons, is notably the joint-most successful skipper in IPL history. Before the 2022 season, the wicketkeeper-batter briefly relinquished his leadership status, with Ravindra Jadeja taking on the role. But after CSK lost a lot of games, he was named captain again halfway through the season.

In 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023, the cricketer from Ranchi helped CSK win five IPL championships. The 42-year-old cricket player is likely to play his final season, so he will be motivated to end it on a high note by leading his team to another championship.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has participated in 52 games for CSK.
In the meantime, Gaikwad, 27, has been with CSK since 2019 and has advanced through the ranks to be regarded as one of the IPL’s rising talents. Over the course of his 52 IPL games, the right-handed hitter has amassed 1797 runs at a 39.07 average, a 135.52 strike rate, and 14 fifty-score innings.
With 635 runs from 16 games at an average of 45.35 and a strike rate of 136.26, including one hundred and forty-five, the right-handed batter was also the 2021 Orange Cap winner. Gaikwad, who is expected to replace one of the stars of the T20 extravaganza, will have enormous shoes to fill in the forthcoming season.
