Notably, Dhoni is recognized as one of the most successful captains in cricket history, having led Chennai to victories in the CLT20 twice (2010, 2014) and the IPL five times (2010, 2011, 2018, 2020, 2023).
Ali also praised Dhoni’s tactical skill, emphasizing that the batsman-keeper can still win even in situations where the team’s makeup presents difficulties. The cricket player from England highlighted how happy he was to have someone with such strategic skill in the dressing room as a colleague.
“It’s common knowledge that Dhoni is a unique player and skipper. He is an excellent man. I’ve played three seasons, but I have no idea what he will think of next. He has an excellent strategic demeanor. What he has for you as a player excites me. Whether the team is good or poor on paper, you always have a chance to win when you play for CSK with Dhoni as the captain, Ali stated in an interview with ESPNcricinfo.

The 36-year-old said that England has a fantastic opportunity to win the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to start on June 1. In the major competition, he continued, the Three Lions would do better since they have taken a lot of lessons from the last ODI World Cup. He disclosed that since the last World Cup, the team has made some adjustments that will enable them to compete in the USA and the West Indies in a much healthier manner.
“If they don’t learn from the ODI World Cup, it will be foolish.” We have probably learned a great deal. We were probably planning to approach it fairly and observe how it developed. The team had a challenging balance. We made a few adjustments. In this T20 World Cup, I believe we have a fantastic chance. Though it’s too early to tell if we’re favorites, we’ll be alright, Ali stated.
