Delhi Capitals Women vs. Mumbai Indians Women, WPL 2024, Match 12: Twelfth Match - Who Said What?

Tuesday, March 5, at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, saw the Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) maintain their winning streak in the Women’s Premier League 2024 with a 29-run victory over Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) in Match 12. Mumbai could only attain the big objective of 193, failing to pursue it.They lost three wickets in the first three

overs of their pursuit, with Yastika Bhatia (6 off 3), Nat Sciver-Brunt (5 off 3), and Harmanpreet Kaur (6 off 6) returning to the hut. Their chase did not start off very well. After being removed from the game, Amanjot Kaur (42 off 27), Hayley Matthews (29 off 17), and S Sajana (24* off 14) made every effort to stay in the match, but they were unable to maintain the necessary run rate.

Delhi had been placed to bat first, but they had gotten off to a fast start. Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, the openers, scored 48 runs off of just 27 balls to take the first wicket. When Shabnim Ismail removed Verma in the fifth over, the partnership came to an end. Lanning, nevertheless, managed to hold one end and record her second half-century of the year.

In the thirteenth over, she led her team past 110 with a score of 53 (38), complete with six fours and two sixes. After Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed, she gave DC the ideal conclusion with her amazing knock of 69* (33) that included eight fours and three sixes. DC scored 69 runs in the final five overs, thanks to her fireworks.

Following the match, the two captains and the Player of the Match said the following:

Mumbai Indians’ losing captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, stated:

I think while fielding, we gave away too many runs, it wasn’t up to the mark, didn’t take our chances. The positive is that we got 160 despite the top-order not contributing. We weren’t aware of the pitch, that’s the reason we chased. We expected dew, but it didn’t come, the ball was also staying low and they bowled well. When we play on a ground where one side is short, the batter has a lot of things on mind, but if the bowlers keep bowling to a right line and length, we can keep the scoring down. But the shorter side did affect us when we batted.

I thing change of pace was helping, especially when the slower ones were bowled, but we need to go back and think how we need to play on this wicket. She’s been doing well, she didn’t get a lot of batting previously, but she did well today (on Amandeep Kaur). If one or two batters had done well, we could have had a better chance with the chase.

Winning captain, Meg Lanning, Delhi Capitals Women, said:

It was a good game for us. We wanted to keep improving, we were up against a very good team. Having a set batter in the end is helpful, Jemi did that really well. I thought our bowlers set the innings up with early wickets. We were at par with the score, we understood the conditions, so we had to hit the length and target the stumps. Our bowlers did that really well.

Player of the Match, Jemimah Rodrigues, Delhi Capitals Women, said:

I think more than my batting, happy with the win. MI is a really good team, so we had to give our best. We did that as a team. I am very happy honestly speaking, was a crucial time to come in. Wasn’t the easiest of wickets, but was suitable for my type of batting. Learning from my past mistakes, was trying to go out there and be explosive. I went back after the Test match, worked on a few things coming into the WPL. Using the crease, timing the ball well, that was the game plan. I was playing on the bowler’s mind, and that helped me a lot today.
