Why MS Dhoni is the finest IPL captain ever: Tom Moody says, "He has won the title with very good squads and average squads."

Few names are as well-known in the IPL cricket world as MS Dhoni’s. Dhoni is recognized by his colleagues and commentators as one of the most successful captains in cricket history, and his leadership abilities have won him accolades. On February 20, 2024, the historic competition will mark the completion of 16 years of the inaugural IPL auction. Star Sports, the official IPL 2024 broadcaster, has organized a unique show to choose the ‘All Time Greatest IPL Team’.

An elite group of cricketing greats, including Matthew Hayden, Dale Steyn, Wasim Akram, and Tom Moody, assembled the “Incredible 16” team on the show to reveal their selections for the all-time greatest IPL side. Experts who were deliberating about who the greatest captain in IPL history would be were united in praising Dhoni as both the best captain and a future coaching great in the IPL.

IPL Incredible 16 team (selected by the media):

Former fast bowler Dale Steyn, who praised Dhoni as the pinnacle of leadership brilliance, echoed feelings that were felt by a lot of people. Steyn highlighted Dhoni’s ability to lead and inspire his team both on and off the field, citing his long list of accomplishments, which includes victories in the World Cup, the Indian Premier League, and the ICC Champions Trophy.

MS Dhoni is the only option.

He is a World Cup, Indian Premier League, and ICC Champions Trophy winner. I will have to choose MS Dhoni because I believe he is a leader of men and you have a group of guys who are all at the top of their game and they need someone who has been there, done that, and can lead them really well both on and off the field,” he remarked.

Coach and former cricketer for Australia, Tom Moody, highlighted Dhoni’s incredible achievement of leading teams to victory even with mixed-skilled lineups. Moody’s recognized Dhoni’s ability to bring out the best in a variety of players, highlighting his versatility and strategic skills. “MS Dhoni has to win the title for me, because he has done so with both very good and average squads, and that tells me a lot about the captain and how he can lead a variety of talent in a squad to success,” the man stated. While MI has featured some of the strongest lineups in the IPL since its start, Rohit Sharma has been an outstanding captain for the team.

Still, appreciation was not limited to Dhoni’s captaincy skills. More in-depth, former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden praised Dhoni’s coaching ability. Hayden emphasized Dhoni’s exceptional capacity to perform in both managerial and playing capacities, highlighting his poised demeanor and perceptive leadership style as priceless resources for leading teams to victory.

“I think it’s an obvious choice; this isn’t going to be a debate; the entire Indian community will agree on it,” stated Matthew Hayden. It’s difficult to choose between Rohit Sharma, the Hitman, and Dhoni because he is such an amazing leader, but I’ll be brave and choose Dhoni to be both a captain and coach. In 2008, Shane Warne led the team, the Double R’s, to a championship while serving as captain and coach. I believe MS Dhoni is capable of coaching as well.
