2024 New Zealand vs. South Africa: Glenn Phillips' one-handed acrobatics send Keegan Petersen reeling

In Test cricket, sudden inspiration bursts frequently decide the outcome of games. During the second Test match between South Africa and New Zealand in Hamilton, one such incident occurred. Glenn Phillips made an incredible catch that allowed the Kiwi team to enter the game.
With a lead of 233 runs, South Africa was batting at 202/4 in their second inning and were in a comfortable position. There was balance throughout the contest as both teams attempted to gain the upper hand. However, the thrilling moment occurred when Matt Henry entered the field to bowl in the 59th over of South Africa’s innings.

Batting at 43, Keegan Petersen took a cut shot after spotting a delivery that was placed outside off. But what happened next was remarkable, to say the least. The ball shot uppishly toward the ravine as Petersen’s blade made contact with it.

With lightning speed, Glenn Phillips responded.

He sprang to his right, reached out with his right hand, and grabbed the ball out of thin air. The audience cried out in surprise as Phillips’ one-handed stunner sent Petersen back to the pavilion. In addition to ending a crucial alliance, the incredible catch gave the New Zealand team a boost.

The Kiwis are trying to complete the series 2-0 after winning the opening test at Mount Maunganui. With two days left in the match, things are getting serious. To draw the series, the visitors need to take nine wickets, while New Zealand needs 227 runs to sweep the series.
