Jasprit Bumrah, an Indian fast bowler, became the first pacer in the nation to be ranked #1 in the ICC Test bowling rankings. The speedster moved up three ranks to overthrow his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin of India and make history by being the first bowler to rank first in all three game forms.
The 30-year-old won Player of the Match and amassed the second-best match statistics of his Test career with a 9/91 in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. Ravichandran Ashwin hailed the India star after his game-winning effort, referring to Bumrah as “Boomball.”
Boomball was the true star of the show. Jasprit Bumrah has had outstanding bowling. In the current series against England, he has taken the most wickets with 14, and he is also placed first among Test bowlers. Ashwin posted on his YouTube channel, “I am a huge fan of his and this is a Himalayan feat.”
Notably, with figures of 6/45 in the first innings of the Visakhapatnam Test, Bumrah collected just his second five-wicket haul in India. For him to record his greatest stats in India, he parted ways with Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Tom Hartley, and James Anderson.
With 15 wickets from four innings at an average of 10.66 and an economy of 2.76, the cricketer from Ahmedabad is the series’ top wicket-taker thus far. There are many speculations suggesting that Bumrah may be rested ahead of the third test in order to manage his workload.
Most likely, Jasprit Bumrah won’t get a break for the third Test.
The right-arm seamer, however, is probably going to participate in the match starting on February 15 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, given the extended time between the second and third Tests. The BCCI has now confirmed that India’s great batsman, Virat Kohli, will miss the entire series. Meanwhile, the Indian team for the next three Test matches was released.
Aakash Deep, a seamer from Bengal, has replaced Avesh Khan, who was freed for Ranji Trophy duties after Shreyas Iyer was discarded owing to his persistently bad record since 2023.
