Alastair Cook praises Yashasvi Jaiswal's temperament against England, saying, "It was an innings of maturity and skill beyond his 22 years."

Yashasvi Jaiswal demonstrated exceptional determination and composure during the intense confrontation between India and England in Visakhapatnam, particularly on the first day of the second Test. Notwithstanding the difficulties presented by the English bowling assault, Jaiswal demonstrated resilience and guided the Indian innings with a composed century. Alastair Cook, a former captain of England, praised the young left-handed batsman for his poise at the crease, endorsing his performance.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s resilient performance stood out despite the vagaries of the Indian innings. The century he made, his first on his home ground and second overall, highlighted his potential as a powerful Test batsman. Earlier, he demonstrated his expertise with an outstanding 171-run performance on his debut against the West Indies in July of last year. Cook, celebrated for his exceptional batting skills in Test cricket, praised the Indian opener’s calmness in high-stress situations, particularly when there was a lack of support from other batsmen.

“He has consistently performed successfully when his team requires it.” His performance displayed a remarkable level of maturity and skill, especially considering his young age of 22. Yashasvi Jaiswal had an exceptional performance. The remaining members of the India team had a score of 158-6 on a favorable cricket pitch. Removing him from the team leaves their vulnerable batting lineup intact. I wonder if England may adopt a strategy of bowling with a broader line against him. “Although it may result in conceding some runs, it would introduce a higher level of risk,” Cook stated to TNT Sports.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieves his first double century.

The 22-year-old achieved a remarkable double-century in the ongoing second Test of the series between India and England in Visakhapatnam on Day 2, showcasing exceptional batting skills and earning a place in the record books. The skilled batsman’s performance represented a notable achievement, as he became the first Indian player since November 2019 to score a double-century in Test cricket, emulating the success of Mayank Agarwal.

In the face of difficult circumstances and frequent wicket losses, he displayed exceptional poise, achieving a score of 200 runs in only 277 deliveries. Significantly, he has become the third-youngest Indian to achieve this accomplishment, joining the esteemed company of Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli. Additionally, he is the first left-handed batsman since Gautam Gambhir to record a Test double-century. He ultimately achieved a total of 209 runs from 290 deliveries.
