On Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad batsman Tanmay Agarwal broke yet more records as he struck the most sixes in a first-class innings. On Day 1, the 28-year-old achieved the record for the fastest triple hundred in first-class cricket, needing just 147 balls to reach the milestone.
Tanmay carried over his innings on the overnight score of 323* (160), hitting three more sixes to surpass Colin Munro of New Zealand with 24 maximums altogether. Notably, in a 2015 Auckland match against Central Districts, Munro hit 23 sixes. Shafiqullah Shinwari of Afghanistan, who plays for Kabul Region versus Boost, is ranked third on the list with 22 maximums.
However, Ishan Kishan and Shakti Singh hold the record for the most sixes scored by an Indian in a first-class innings, with a combined total of 14 maximums. After smashing multiple records on Day 1, Agarwal was in line for even more glory as he attempted to top Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s record of the greatest first-class score by an Indian, which he held with an undefeated 443* for Maharashtra back in 1948.
Hyderabad won by a margin of 187 runs in the first innings.
He did, however, lose out on 366 (181) after hitting 34 fours and 26 sixes during his innings. Together with MV Sridhar, he therefore achieved the fourth-highest first-class score ever by an Indian. Hyderabad declared their innings on 615/4, ahead by 443 runs, after he was dismissed.

Arunachal Pradesh was bowled out for 256 in the second innings, with Divyanshu Yadav leading the way with 91 (92). Hyderabad won by an innings and 187 runs thanks to three wickets apiece from Tanay Thyagarajan (3/64) and Palakodeti Sairam (3/24).

Agarwal stated that he was not aiming for a record and was just going with the flow of the innings after his record-breaking innings.
“Just now, the world record was set. There was no plan. I didn’t have any plans to do this or that. It simply took place. No, I’m not because I’m unsure of how long Saturday’s batting session will last. I’ll aim to play like I opened the innings today when I bat tomorrow. When it occurs, it occurs.
