Joe Root beats Sachin Tendulkar's 11-year record in the IND vs. ENG match.
On Thursday, January 25, during the first Test match between India and England, star batsman Joe Root made history by becoming the highest run scorer in the history of the series.

The 33-year-old, during his quick innings of 29 (60) on Day 1 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, put the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar behind.Notably, Joe Root was only ten runs short of overtaking Tendulkar, who topped the chart with 2535 runs from 53 innings at an average of 51.73, prior to the Test. Now occupying the top slot, the former England captain has amassed 2555 runs from just 46 innings at an average of 62.31, including nine hundreds and ten fifties.

In addition, the Yorkshire-born batsman tied the record for most runs scored in Test matches against India by surpassing the iconic Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who has amassed 2555 runs from 51 innings. Root has an even batter record in England against India, amassing 1574 runs at an average of 74.95 from 15 matches, including seven hundreds.

In the Pataudi Trophy in 2021–22, he put up his finest series performance against India, amassing 737 runs from nine innings at an incredible average of 105.28, including four hundreds.

On the first day of the First Test, India wins.

On the first day of the Test, England was bowled out for 246 runs, skipper Ben Stokes hitting the highest with 70 (88). This placed England on the back foot. Axar Patel (2/33) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/28) both claimed two wickets, but Ravichandran Ashwin (3/68) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/88) were India’s best bowlers.

With openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (76* off 70) and Rohit Sharma (24 off 27) scoring 80 runs for the first wicket off 74 balls, India responded with a flourish. In an attempt to score a lot against Jack Leach, Captain Rohit was trapped and was caught by England’s Stokes midway through the innings. After being removed, Shubman Gill (14* off 43) came to bat with Jaiswal and led India to a 127-run deficit at 119/1 at the end of the innings.
