Joburg Super Kings were beaten by Paarl Royals by five wickets in the ongoing SA20 second edition. The team captained by David Miller is presently leading the points table because of their outstanding cricketing performance. The Paarl Royals, who have 22 points from six games, have all but guaranteed a spot in the postseason. However, they will try to maintain their winning streak in order to contend for the championship.
On the other side, Johannesburg is currently going through a difficult time. While the bowlers have been mediocre for nearly the whole season, captain Faf du Plessis has failed to produce. Johannesburg is now sixth on the points table with six points from the same number of games played, but only having one victory under their belt.
In the meanwhile, the Royals opted to bowl first after winning the toss in the game. Reeza Hendricks of Johannesburg provided the squad a strong start by scoring 79 runs off of 56 deliveries, but he had very little assistance from other players in the middle. Despite their best efforts, Leus de Plooy and Moeen Ali were unable to elevate their game to a higher level. Johannesburg then scored 168 runs in the game.
Wihan Lubbe and Dane Vilas grabbed the show when it came to the pursuit. Despite sending the threatening duo of Jos Buttler and Jason Roy back to the pavilion quite early in the second innings, Johannesburg was not helped. Lubbe scored 57 runs off 48 deliveries while batting at number three, while Vilas scored 42 runs off 26 deliveries. As the Johannesburg bowlers failed to put on a display, their partnership sealed the deal for the visitors.
In the end, Lizaad Williams’ three overs yielded 52 runs, which proved to be too costly for the team. The team led by Faf du Plessis has a lot of space for improvement before the next match. To make it into the playoffs, they must win their final games.
