Rajat Patidar was selected the substitute when England's Virat Kohli withdrew from the first two Test matches.

Rajat Patidar has secured a place in the Indian team for the first two Test matches against England, which is a noteworthy milestone. Virat Kohli’s choice to miss the first two Tests because of personal obligations has led to his inclusion. The much awaited five-match Test series is set to begin in Hyderabad on January 25. There weren’t many other names that were in contention, thus this move has generated discussion among cricketers.

The right-handed batter’s selection indicates a deliberate attempt to delay the arrival of Mumbai’s Sarfaraz Khan by indicating a current preference away from Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Rajat Patidar’s promotion to the senior team has been made possible by Rinku Singh’s selection in the India A squad for today’s second multi-day game against the England Lions.

In the first innings of the first unofficial Test, he scored 151 for India A against the England Lions, demonstrating his excellent form. The Indore native, who was a member of the A team on the previous year’s South Africa tour, also scored a respectable 111 in the warm-up match against the Lions. Notably, the RCB batter’s call-up to the senior team was made possible by Rinku Singh’s recent inclusion to the A squad for the final two games against the England Lions on Tuesday. With a stellar record of 4000 runs in 55 first-class matches, an average of 45.97, 12 centuries, and a career-high score of 196, Singh is truly remarkable.

In his limited international appearance, Rajat Patidar radiates talent.

The 30-year-old made his international debut in the third One-Day International (ODI) match at Paarl against South Africa. He opened the innings with Sai Sudharsan and scored 22 runs off of 16 deliveries in a fast-paced innings that included three boundaries and a maximum. In spite of his opening appearance, Patidar is expected to occupy a middle order spot if selected for his Test debut in the forthcoming match against England in Hyderabad.

With his remarkable performance in the IPL 2022, when he amassed 333 runs in seven innings at an astounding average of 55.50 and a striking rate of 152.75, the Madhya Pradesh batter initially brought attention to the game of cricket. His remarkable century of 112 off 54 deliveries in the Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants was a major factor in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) reaching a winning total.
