Jonathan Trott urges Afghanistan batsmen to improve their hitting skills in front of the T20 World Cup, saying, “We need to do it more.”

"If you want to compete for a World Cup or a series, we need to put in more effort. Thus, that presents a challenge "said Trott.

Jonathan Trott urges Afghanistan batsmen to improve their hitting skills in front of the T20 World Cup, saying, "We need to do it more."

Undoubtedly, Afghanistan is viewed as the biggest underdog going into the T20 World Cup 2024, which is quickly approaching. When the team entered the 2023 ODI World Cup, they shocked everyone by winning four of the nine league games.

They’ve instilled in the players the belief that they can defeat any team in international cricket, and they’ll carry that belief into the forthcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. Afghanistan and India are currently playing a three-game Twenty20 International series, with Afghanistan having lost the first two matches. Head coach Jonathan Trott made a request of the team before they left for Bangalore for the third and final Twenty20 International: greater consistency at the bat going forward against the “Men in Blue.”

“All of that [batting longer and with a higher strike rate] is combined in it.” We need our hitters going into the final ten [overs], in my opinion. In the last five overs, we have witnessed how difficult it is to stop batsmen,” Trott was cited by Cricbuzz.

“If you want to compete for a World Cup or a series, we need to put in more effort. Thus, that presents a problem, but it also presents an exciting opportunity because, with proper execution, we can defeat anyone,” he continued.

We haven’t engaged in much T20 cricket lately: Trott

Additionally, Jonathan Trott discussed how Afghanistan hasn’t played a lot of Twenty20 international cricket lately and how, understandably, it takes some time to get used to the shorter format.

We haven’t engaged in any T20 cricket action lately. We take a little bit to get into the groove as a side. With the Asia Cup and the series that preceded it, we witnessed our own preparation for the 50-over World Cup. That’s what I want to accomplish here, Trott stated.
