Adam Gilchrist was said to have called Pakistan the “worst Asian team” after the squad suffered a crushing Test series loss in Australia. The legendary Australian, however, refuted this and made it clear that he had never said anything of the sort.
“This is not something I ever stated. Absolutely bogus, made-up quotes. This summer, Pakistan was very nearly the winners of a couple of Test matches, even up against a World Champion Australian side. Adam Gilchrist responded on X to a Pakistani supporter who posted a tweet containing Gilchrist’s quote, saying, “#fakenews #ignore.”
“Pakistan is the worst Asian team in Australian conditions; what have they won here in the last 35 years?” the message stated. Gilchrist, however, pointed out the inaccuracy and declared it to be phony.

Against Australia, Pakistan lost a three-match Test series.
As part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship, Pakistan had a terrible start to the three-match Test series, losing the first Test in Perth by 360 runs. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) provided the Shan Masood-led team with excellent opportunities to win, but they faltered in both contests and ultimately lost 3-0.
In the SCG Test, David Warner’s final match, the visiting team had gained the lead early on. They were unable to stop Australia in the second innings, though, and Australia won by eight wickets. Pakistan received zero World Test Championship points at the conclusion of the series, while the hosts secured twelve.
Pakistan’s 17th consecutive Test match on Australian soil ended in a defeat at the SCG. Pakistan will now play an away five-match Twenty20 International series against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand after losing the Test series.
