Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey will return to their clubs in the BBL in 2024 after serving their countries.

Fans of Australian cricket will be treated to a treat as top players Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are expected to return to their respective clubs for the remaining matches of the 13th season of the Big Bash League (BBL). Alex Carey of the Adelaide Strikers is also returning, while Travis Head—the hero of the ODI World Cup final—is enjoying a well-earned vacation.

Khawaja and Labuschagne will be representing the Brisbane Heat, who have been making waves this season with an unblemished record. This Wednesday’s match between the Heat and the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba is exciting for the team because it marks the return of two of cricket’s biggest names. Similarly, Heat coach Wade Seccombe stated his excitement about Khawaja and Labuschagne returning to the starting lineup, saying,

According to Seccombe, “having Usman Khawaja and Marnus back on the team will be beneficial, especially as we approach the business end of the competition.”

Travis Head will not be available for Big Bash selection, per Cricket Australia’s consultation: Adelaide Strikers

Meanwhile, the return of wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey will help the Adelaide Strikers, who are looking to turn around their dismal season. Notably, the Strikers need a strong finish to challenge for the playoffs since they are now sixth in the rankings. But there are questions since Travis Head, who is essential to the Strikers’ lineup, isn’t there.

“Travis Head will not be available for Big Bash selection during the break between international Test series, after consulting with Cricket Australia medical staff,” the Adelaide Strikers said in a statement.

These player actions are anticipated to intensify the rivalry as the BBL 2024 draws closer to its conclusion. With six victories in eight games, the Heat are already assured a spot in the top three and will be aiming to maintain their position against the Perth Scorchers in their next games.

It’s also expected that well-known stars like David Warner and Steve Smith will soon grace the BBL stage. Smith is scheduled to play for the Sydney Sixers against the Sydney Thunder, and Warner intends to play in the game following his brother’s wedding while attending family festivities.
