David Warner hopes to arrive in time for the January 12 Sydney Smash after he officially retires from Test cricket. In order to help him get back to the city before the play begins, the southpaw mentioned that he had a few planes booked to accompany him on his upcoming trip to the north of Sydney for his brother’s wedding.
For the next three games of the season—against the Sixers, Adelaide Strikers, and Melbourne Renegades—the Sydney Thunder are confident that Warner will be available. Despite the fact that Warner is pressed for time to attend the Sixers game, he is determined to give it his all.
“Depending on the weather, I have a few planes booked. There’s a thin line. I may be tight, but I’m doing everything I can to make it work on that day,” Warner reportedly told ESPNcricinfo.

The current season marks the end of Warner’s contract with the Sydney Thunder. The 37-year-old, though, is eager to return to the Big Bash League for the upcoming campaign. For the next summer, when India travels to Australia to compete in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, he has a commentary contract with Fox Cricket. The opener is said to find time to compete in the competition, but he is adamant that no club alter their lineup to make room for him.
“I am eager to participate in Big Bash next year,” he declared. “To enable me to achieve that, there will be discussions behind closed doors. I’m excited to be a part of the Fox commentary crew for the Test series against India next year, as you can obviously see.
“I would like to play that in and around the commentary stuff because we have a BBL window that we can play.” He continued, “I just have to make sure that I’m, one, playing to the best of my ability and, two, not interfering with the team’s performances or throwing off the team’s equilibrium.
