Marnus Labuschagne supports Steven Smith to take David Warner’s position as the next Test opener, saying, “He wants that motivation.”

"He averages 58 at five, 61 at four and 67 at three, so it seems like the higher he goes the more he averages," Labuchagne stated.

Marnus Labuschagne supports Steven Smith to take David Warner's position as the next Test opener, saying, "He wants that motivation."

The most talked-about occurrence of the present Australian summer has been David Warner‘s retirement. Finding a replacement for the southpaw in the Test team is another task that has occupied the management of the team and the previous cricket players. Head coach Andrew McDoland and captain Pat Cummins agreed that anybody may be sent to open since they are not only searching for a specialized opener.

Steve Smith added complication to the situation when he declared his intention to assume the post ahead of Australia’s third Test against Pakistan. According to media sources, Cameron Green was up against Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft, two more skilled openers, but as it stands, Smith has also established himself. Marnus Labuschagne thinks that Smith’s new job may motivate him a little bit because his average improves with more balls batted. The 29-year-old thinks the cricketer, who was born in Sydney, will do well in that role since he can’t wait to bat.

“Averaging 58 at age five, 61 at age four, and 67 at age three, it appears that his average increases with increasing age. If we pursued that route, I have no doubt that he would succeed admirably. He truly wants that drive; he really does. His forte is getting out there quickly; waiting to bat is not his style,” Marnus Labuschagne told SEN Cricket.

Although Marnus Labuschagne is willing to play any position the team assigns him, he likes No. 3 since it provides variation. The team has enough openers, he said once again, although Smith appears to be the frontrunner to take Warner’s spot.

“I enjoy batting at three because of the variety of the position, but I’m happy to do what the team needs.” Right now, anyone may be the culprit. I’ve witnessed the media slinging accusations at Travis Head and me, as well as the three openers who aren’t in the team: Matt Renshaw, Marcus Harris, and Cameron Bancroft. According to Labuschagne, Smudge (Steve Smith) appears to be the front-runner and the one who truly wants it.
