The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the first four ICC Awards 2023 shortlists, showcasing the outstanding players competing for the titles of Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketer of the Year and Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.
Eight different countries are represented among the T20I category candidates, showcasing the wide range of talent present in the world game after an exciting year of competition in the shortest format.
India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who won the title in the same category in 2022, is a candidate to win the award again in the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year category. The top-ranked T20I batter this year will face Mark Chapman of New Zealand, Alpesh Ramjani of Uganda, and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, all of whom had historic years in the shortest format.
The top players in the women’s game are honored on the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year shortlist. The all-around legend Hayley Matthews of the West Indies, England’s Sophie Ecclestone, and the perennial Ellyse Perry—a two-time winner of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year (2019 and 2017)—join Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka, who was in brilliant form throughout the year.
In 2023, a plethora of remarkable fresh talent surfaced globally, delivering us with remarkable shows at major tournaments like the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Four outstanding young women’s cricket players compete for the title of ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Marufa Akter of Bangladesh, Lauren Bell of England, Darcey Carter of Scotland, and Phoebe Litchfield of Australia are the four front-runners for the title, having all shown impressive form in 2023.
Today also saw the release of the ICC Emerging Men’s Cricketer of the Year shortlist, which features four ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup superstars in an extremely competitive field. Gerald Coetzee will compete for the 2023 prize against Yashasvi Jaiswal of India, Dilshan Madushanka of Sri Lanka, and Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand, hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Protea Marco Jansen, the winner from the previous year.
At www.icc-cricket.com, fans can now cast their votes for their preferred T20I and emerging players. More categories will become accessible as the ICC announces more names over the next two days.
Nine ICC Awards 2023 categories have shortlists that will be unveiled between January 3 and 5. Based on their on-field performances and overall achievements in international cricket during the calendar year, a specialized panel of cricket writers and broadcasters chose the nominees.
The ICC Voting Academy’s picks and the outcomes of the fan vote will be merged to determine the winner in each of the nominated categories.
The ICC Awards 2023 will include 13 prizes in total, including the ICC Umpire of the Year, the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award, and the ICC Men’s and Women’s Associate Cricketers of the Year.
The ICC Voting Academy will choose five ICC Teams of the Year in addition to the individual awards, designating the outstanding starting lineups for both men’s and women’s international cricket in 2023.
The ICC Awards 2023 winners will be revealed in January 2024.
