For choosing a third-string team for the two-match Test series against New Zealand, which is scheduled to start on February 4, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is receiving a lot of criticism. CSA has no choice but to take this action because most of the first-team cricket players are unavailable for selection because of the second SA20 edition. Dean Elgar says he is “sad” about the recent development and that the scenario isn’t ideal before playing his final Test match of his career. The players are concentrating on what is ahead of them, he continued; therefore, they have no influence over the situation.
“Our current circumstances are not great. We have no control over anything that occurs behind the scenes. It is beyond our control, as are the coaches’ and team management’s. The fact that it has taken that turn is regrettable. As athletes, we have no control over it; we must concentrate on what we can manage, Elgar reportedly stated to Indian Express.

Several players, including captain Neil Brand, will be making their debuts in the series against New Zealand. Dean Elgar spoke about the same subject and said that players must continue to support Test cricket, stating that now is the ideal moment for players to demonstrate their desire to compete in the game’s longest format.
“Players must prove that they are hungry for this format and go out and win. I will always have a passion for the test, and I believe many of our guys share this passion as well. As much as we battle and advocate for the format, the final say-so rests with the folks who count the beans. Hopefully, moving forward, our players’ actions will involve some sanity, he stated.
