All Test-playing nations have an obligation to safeguard the game's longest format: Rohit Sharma

On Wednesday, January 3, India will play South Africa in their second Test at Newlands, Cape Town. At the first game at Centurion, the tourists were thrashed, losing by an inning and thirty-two runs. Since 1992, India has only managed to escape a series of losses on South African soil once (2010–2011). With a strong showing in Cape Town, Rohit Sharma and company have a chance to tie the series, but they will need to perform at their very best.

Prior to the start of the second match, India captain Rohit Sharma spoke about how important it is to keep Test cricket alive.

With the Proteas selecting seven uncapped players in their squad to play a two-match Test series in New Zealand, the value of Test cricket has once again been called into question. This is because of the regular Test stars’ schedules, which include participating in the SA20’s second edition. Rohit appealed to every country that plays Test cricket to fight together to defend the game’s most original format.

It is imperative that we safeguard and prioritize test cricket. At the pre-match news conference, Rohit stated, “It is the responsibility of all test-playing nations to ensure that we maintain it nice and enjoyable, not just one or two.

In the history of test cricket, India has been one of the most reliable teams. In the previous several World Test Championship (WTC) seasons, they advanced to the finals. They did, however, come in second on both runs. Right now, the Asian behemoths are the world’s top-ranked test squad.

“You can see that excellent Test cricket is being played all around the world. You’ve noticed results everywhere in the previous two to three years. We all understand that cricket is a competitive sport, and it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that it remains both pleasant and healthy as well as competitive,” Rohit continued.
