One of the most famous matches held at the Sydney Cricket Ground each year is the Pink Test. Australia will welcome Pakistan at the famous Sydney site for the prestigious match starting on Wednesday, January 3. Many people are not aware of the Pink Test’s true importance or how it differs from the Pink-Ball Test, though.
Note that the Pink Test is equivalent to the first game of the year in the mentioned location.
In honor of the late Jane McGrath, the late wife of former pacer Glenn McGrath, the match is also connected to the McGrath Foundation, which battles breast cancer. As an honorable gesture, Jane’s name is given to the committed ladies’ stand at the location for each Pink Test.
The former Australian pacer’s charity teams up with Cricket Australia to co-host the match in an effort to raise awareness of the chronic illness. Both of the participating nations may be seen wearing pink hats on the field to show support for the cause. Every year, the Pink Test is more about maintaining a competitive spirit while playing as a team.
David Warner says goodbye to ODIs and Test matches
Warner made the announcement to say goodbye to the red-ball format before the third and final test of the current series. The batter from New South Wales also declared his intention to retire from One-Day Internationals (ODIs), but he also added that if the team requests it, he would want to play in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. With the exception of the shortest format, the southpaw has played in 272 games and amassed over 15,000 runs. He will retire as one of the most successful cricketers to have worn the Australia shirt.
More specifically, one day before taking the field for the third Test, each team revealed their respective playing XIs. Pakistan has made a few changes, but the Pat Cummins-led team will remain unaltered to maintain their winning lineup. Due to workload management, star bowler Shaheen Afridi has been rested, while off-spinner Sajid Khan has taken his position. On the other hand, Saim Ayub is scheduled to open with Abdullah Shafique, while Imam-ul-Haq has made his way.
