Although I wish everyone could watch Test cricket, I've never seen the game get stronger: Pat Cummins

As people across the globe get ready for veteran Australian batsman David Warner to retire from the longest format, a lot of talk has been on the future of Test cricket and how the longest format will fair in the face of the growth of shorter formats and franchise cricket leagues. Pat Cummins, an Australian skipper, brought up the same issue. The 30-year-old expressed concern about the state of Test cricket and expressed his desire for more people to be interested in watching the traditional game. Australia is currently hosting a three-game Test series against Pakistan, and the fan support has been outstanding. But that hasn’t made Cummins any less concerned about what lies ahead for Test cricket.

It’s a difficult one. When traveling abroad, it’s evident that every Australian summer feels bigger than the previous one. There have never been more fans of T20 cricket, and I don’t believe there have ever been more cricket fans worldwide, so yes, I get a little nervous sometimes. Although I’m a huge fan of Test cricket, I wish more people watched the format. Cricbuzz quoted Cummins as saying, “I’ve never seen cricket stronger than it is right now.”

Marnus mentioned a couple times last week that he believed he was the only person in his 20s at this point. Pat Cummins

In addition, Pat Cummins switched his attention to “Warner Week” and stated that, in ODI cricket as opposed to Test cricket, a change in the team’s top order would occur more quickly. Furthermore, he identified Marnus Labuschagne as the youngest member of the current Test team, which will compete in Sydney. It is noteworthy because Labuschagne is only 29 years old, when the majority of his teammates are older than 30.

He stated a couple times last week, “I believe Marnus is the only one in his 20s right now. Although everyone is hanging on, the 30-year-old captain continued, “Really, there is going to be some rate of change over the next couple of years. We probably thought it was going to happen a little bit sooner.”

We don’t play again until next summer, following this run of Test matches. For that reason, I don’t see anything changing quite soon. A few of the first XI players have rested during some ODI tours, which have provided some fantastic opportunities for the young players in Aussie A, Cummins said.
