At Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, December 30, Shreyanka Patil made her much-awaited debut in the One-Day International (ODI) format, bringing a new dynamic to India’s three-match series against Australia. The 21-year-old will probably always treasure the moment when captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave her her first ODI cap.
Shreyanka’s ascent to the international scene took off following a thrilling T20I series against England in which she claimed five wickets and won Player of the Match in the decisive match. She was selected for the ODI team as a result of her outstanding performance, and she took advantage of the chance to take Saika Ishaque’s place as left-arm spinner.

The young athlete has experienced nothing short of extraordinary success in the cricket league. She started off playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) before swiftly progressing to the Asia Cup, where she represented the India Emerging squad. Later, in a series against England, Shreyanka demonstrated her abilities for India A, securing her place in the national team.
In addition to her accomplishments at home, Shreyanka Patil is unique because she was the first Indian player to compete in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). She was the top wicket-taker in the event with nine wickets while playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
With a six-wicket loss in the opening game, India now have a must-win position. Shreyanka’s arrival gives the team a new dimension. Despite their excellent performances in the previous game, Jemimah Rodrigues and Pooja Vastrakar were unable to help the hosts win. Under the impressive leadership of Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, and Tahlia McGrath, Australia easily pursued and reached the mark.
With all eyes on Shreyanka right now, fans of Indian cricket hope that her ODI debut will be a turning moment in the series as the team looks to recover and even score against Australia’s powerful side, led by Alyssa Healy.
