Alex Carey is no longer in the Australian ODI team due to a decline in performance. Still, the stumper-batter is fired up to return because he thinks he has enough of ODI and T20 cricket left in him.
Though Alex Carey feels that he was in good form in the previous 12 months, his form declined at the wrong time, making it difficult for him to secure a spot in the World Cup squad. Speaking on his T20 career, he said that he hoped to get a few more chances in the upcoming months, particularly with the T20 World Cup starting in early June.
“In one-day cricket, I still think I’ve had some very good results over the past 12 months. The timing of the slimmer trot was a factor in the selection panel’s decision to bench him for the World Cup. However, I really believe that I still have a lot of one-day and T20 cricket remaining in me, Alex Carey stated, as reported.
The 32-year-old said, “I haven’t been able to play a lot of T20 cricket. Playing Test cricket has been good, of course, but I’d love to get the opportunity to play some more T20 cricket over the winter, wherever that may be.”
Carey’s red-ball form is being examined concurrently. After smashing a brilliant century in the Boxing Day Test in 2022 against South Africa, the batsman was expected to continue performing well. However, he performed mediocrely in both the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the Ashes 2023, a series that Australia won. In the World Test Championship final, he did participate and helped his side win by 209 runs with scores of 48 and 66. Still, there’s an opportunity for him to get better. Prior to Aamer Jamal defeating him, Carey made a strong start in the opening Test of the current series against Pakistan, scoring 34 runs.
