Shimron Hetmyer is left off of the West Indies T20I squad due to a decline in form, and Alzarri Joseph is given a break ahead of the team’s impending journey to Australia. Due to Hetmyer’s poor performance in recent games—he scored only 1 and 2 runs in the first two matches against England—he was left off of the starting eleven for both the final two Twenty20 Internationals and Grenada.
The 34-year-old Johnson Charles, who last participated in a Twenty20 international in August and scored 44 runs, replaces Shimron Hetmyer.
For the remainder of the T20I series against England, Alzarri Joseph will be rested following his impressive performance, in which he claimed three wickets for 39 runs in the second T20I against England. The 27-year-old pacer will use this planned downtime to get ready for the next Test, ODI, and T20I tour to Australia, which is scheduled to begin with a Test match on January 17.
After earning a spot in the squad, Oshane Thomas will replace Alzarri Joseph for the remaining two Twenty20 internationals in Trinidad. Following his impressive performances in recent matches against England, where he showed off his ability by dismissing big names like Phil Salt, Will Jacks, and Sam Curran, Joseph was handed the decision. This helped the Windies win the second Twenty20 International by a margin of 10 runs.
The Windies management deliberately rotates players in anticipation of the upcoming Australian tour, giving them the chance and downtime they need to maintain optimal condition and fitness in front of the demanding series in Australia. Joseph’s relaxation and Shimron Hetmyer’s absence from the team suggested that their preparation for the upcoming cricket match was well-thought out.
