India women’s team won handily and decisively against Heather Knight’s England on the third day of their one-off Test match. India put up a performance of a lifetime and dominated the match for the majority of the day.
The team was able to keep the lead after scoring 428 runs in the first inning and dismissing England for a mere 136 runs. Additionally, the team scored 186 runs in the second inning before declaring, setting a lofty 479-run goal for England to chase.
The second inning for the visitors did not start off well. Sophia Dunkley and Tammy Beaumont, who started the game, were out for 15 and 17 runs, respectively. Heather Knight, the skipper, was gone after just 21 runs, so she had no effect.
But much to England’s astonishment, during the second innings of the match, Knight’s 21-run knock was the highest score by any batsman in the side. Nat Sciver-Brunt was dismissed for a duck by India’s potent bowling attack, while Danni Wyatt and Amy Jones were also unsuccessful in making a significant impact. In the end, England lost the match despite 10 runs from Sophie Ecclestone and 20 runs from Charlie Dean.
For India, Deepti Sharma claimed the most wickets in the second innings once more. Deepti ruined England’s intentions during the run chase with four wickets after her outstanding five-wicket performance in the opening innings.
With Pooja Vastrakar getting three wickets, Rajeshwari Gayakwad taking two, and Renuka Singh hitting one, the Indian women’s team dismissed England for a meager 131 runs in the run chase, winning the match by an astounding 347 runs.
