“Cricketers chosen in the IPL players auction have very little chance of playing the entire tournament if the IPL clashes with our national squad. Chairperson of BCB Cricket Operations Jalal Yunus stressed the board’s cautious approach to Cricbuzz. “In addition, we want to be careful in handling them as we need to think about their injury management and for that reason, we want to take steps by taking everything into consideration,” Yunus said.
Taskin Ahmed’s availability for the entire 2024 IPL season is clouded in doubt.
Interestingly, Bangladesh’s home series against Sri Lanka coincides with the IPL 2024, which is scheduled to begin on March 24 of the following year. This presents a scheduling conundrum for the cricket board. To balance their responsibilities to franchise and national cricket, the BCB seeks to ensure the prudent management of its top players.
Yunus also said that Taskin Ahmed would be disappointed once more if he was not selected because of his unavailability for the entire season. Notwithstanding the interest of the franchise, Taskin was not released by the BCB, hence he was not able to play for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022.
Having previously refused NOCs (No Objection Certificates) for a variety of cricket matches, the BCB’s cautious approach is not unprecedented. Prioritizing national interests and player well-being is something the board has demonstrated by Taskin’s earlier rejection of an offer from Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League and his denial of a time with English County last season.
