Suryakumar Yadav

In the third Twenty20 International, Suryakumar Yadav stunned the cricketing world with a brilliant century off just 56 deliveries against South Africa. But a bewildering occurrence involving the Indian skipper demoralized and shocked veteran cricketer Shreevats Goswami. Goswami expressed his dissatisfaction with the captain’s tactics in the 19th over of the first innings on social media.

To signal for a run as the 19th over neared its conclusion, wicketkeeper-battler Jitesh Sharma skillfully handled a low full toss from Nandre Burger through deep point. Remarkably, batting at a strong 98 Suryakumar Yadav rejected the single. While his batting exploits were certainly commendable, the dramatic occurrence in the 19th over elevated the drama of India’s innings and had both analysts and fans wondering about the captain’s choice. Goswami expressed his surprise and disapproval on Twitter, challenging the star batter’s choice.

I’m not sure when cricket changed from being a team sport to an individual one. Simply said, not on!! #shocked

India’s attack is fueled by Suryakumar Yadav wicket at the death.

Together with Rinku Singh’s comeback in the 18th over, Mr. 360’s scorching innings had laid the groundwork for India to score well over 200. India was at 186 for three, thus a score of 215 looked doable. But in the last over, Burger, having given up 37 runs in his first three overs, pulled off an incredible recovery. Despite giving up just six runs, he dismissed Rinku Singh on the third ball.

Seemingly unhappy with the way things went in the 19th over, Suryakumar decided to take matters into his own hands. He may have been trying to atone for his sins when he refused Jitesh the single, but the move did not work out. The moment Lizaad Williams reached his fourth T20I hundred, he removed the skipper of India with the very next delivery. India struggled to go beyond 200 runs and suffered additional blows, losing two wickets in the next four deliveries.
