Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Alyssa Healy is getting ready for the December 21st Test match against India in Mumbai.
After getting involved in a fight with her dogs, Alyssa Healy suffered a finger injury that kept her out of action for the majority of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Despite the setback, Alyssa Healy reaffirmed her desire to return and said that she would be eligible for the opening Test match against India.
“I’m sure I’ll be there [for the test], and they’ll have to work hard to prevent me from going out there and hitting the opening shot,” she remarked on Friday at the Kayo Summer of Cricket launch. “Everything is going incredibly nicely.
ESPN Cricinfo reported Healy as saying, “I started back in the nets the last week-and-a-half so I’m all on track to fly to India on Wednesday for a big series over there,” indicating her preparedness for the challenge in India.
After Lanning retires, Alyssa Healy will assume leadership.
The story is made even more exciting by Healy’s possible captaincy role. Alyssa Healy will likely be named the new captain of Cricket Australia, succeeding the recently retiring Meg Lanning, during the organization’s Friday meeting. “Obviously, we leave on Wednesday so having some sort of clarity and assurance for the team before we fly out would be great,” Healy, who had taken over as captain in Lanning’s absence, excitedly stated. It would be tremendously thrilling if it were me. Meg’s news was clearly a bit of a shock, and I feel like I’ve been warming the seat for her return for the past eighteen months.”
“It would be really thrilling for the successful candidate to lead a multi-format series in India. She said, “If it’s me, then you, beauty!”
Going forward, given the difficulty of playing in Indian conditions, it will be intriguing to watch how the Australians fare there. The legendary Mumbai Wankede Stadium will host the opening game.
