Shanto

Najmul Shanto led Bangladesh to victory in the first Test of the two-match series, defeating New Zealand by 150 runs. Shanto’s leadership abilities were commended by head coach Chandika Hathurusingha after the triumph, and he was heralded as having the long-term potential to lead Bangladesh in all three game formats.

Notably, Shakib Al Hasan is now out due to a finger injury, and Shanto is leading the national team in his place.

Regarding his capacity for leadership, Hathurusingha said the cricket player is well organized and active. Shanto was also a very good batsman, in addition to being a great leader. He scored a century in the second inning, and Bangladesh amassed 338 runs in the second inning thanks to his effort, which stopped New Zealand’s momentum.

Hathurusingha acknowledged his batting prowess and said the 25-year-old is setting an example for other players and expecting them to do the same. Returning to his captaincy, the head coach said that he will still be involved in the grand scheme of things and that the board will make a decision at the appropriate moment.

He was a great captain because he made tactically accurate decisions. Most of the time, he was one step ahead of the game. He had also established some quite remarkable field placements, somewhat unconventional but very successful.

“He led with great skill as well. With his batting and his ability to demand respect and hold players to a standard, he led by example. That is advantageous. I believe he has a bright future. According to the Daily Star, Hathurusingha stated, “The board will take a decision when the time comes [regarding] his captaincy or leadership (for the long term).”

Shanto, meanwhile, is eager to assume the leadership role for Bangladesh in international cricket. The cricketer declared that he had the “ability to lead in all formats” prior to the second Test match against New Zealand.
