Bangladesh’s innings lasted just one delivery after Day 1 ended at 310-9. Southee trapped Shoriful Islam in front, and upon review, it was determined that the ball would have cannoned into leg-stump. With the second and third balls of the innings, Tom Latham caressed Shoriful Islam for boundaries as New Zealand’s innings got off to a smooth start.
Expectedly, Bangladesh wasted a review against Devon Conway off the final delivery of Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s opening over when he bowled off-spin from the other end with the new ball. But Bangladesh’s bowlers didn’t let up, and their economical bowling paid off when Tom Latham top-edged a sweep in Taijul Islam’s opening over, laying the ball wide open for Nayeem Hasan to easily catch. Conway’s defiance also ended when he lobbed one up to a silly point after edging one from Miraz onto his pads.
Day 2 lunch saw Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls put up 34 for the third wicket, leaving New Zealand in a respectable position.
