Glenn Maxwell’s method never ceases to astound me when I examine it: R Sridhar

"Maxwell's got that belief that he’ll pull off something like this all the time when he goes into bat," stated Sridhar.

Glenn Maxwell's method never ceases to astound me when I examine it: R Sridhar

In the third Twenty20 International of the five-match series, Australia defeated India to maintain their lead. JioCinema specialist and former India fielding coach R Sridhar examined the shots made by Glenn Maxwell and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the third Twenty20 International between Australia and India in Guwahati. The visitors triumphed by five wickets. The hosts are leading the five-match series 2-1.

Regarding Glenn Maxwell 104* off 48 balls: “Only a player like Maxwell could be expected to produce an inning like this.”

While there were undoubtedly a few other outstanding performances, like Ruturaj Gaikwad’s innings and Jason Behrendorff’s 1/12 in 4 overs, Maxwell stood out as the day’s best player. He has the conviction that every time he takes the field, he will accomplish something similar, and his bat stroke produces incredible power.

I am always in awe of his technique every time I see it. Because of his incredible speed and the way his bottom hand descends. In addition, he has added a new shot to his repertoire that he uses to hit the ball over the leg side and well beyond the line, particularly behind square.

Regarding Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 123 off of 57 balls: “It was incredible to see.” This was just the kind of knock Ruturaj Gaikwad’s would deliver. Just as he perfectly performed his task in anchoring the innings in the previous game in Thiruvananthapuram, so did he here. He started off batting on 27 of 33 balls before picking up speed between the 11th and 15th overs. He marched toward a century toward the end, and how! He demonstrated his class with those pulls over midwicket and smashes over extra cover. Throughout the innings, he never once overhit the ball.”
