Prior to the 17th Indian Premier League (IPL), it was announced that the Delhi Capitals franchise had retained Indian opener Prithvi Shaw. This is a significant event. The Capitals were rumored to be planning to cut Shaw, but it appears they have changed their minds.

His continued employment with DC may be advantageous for the developing patient as he heals. “Yes, the Delhi Capitals have retained him for the 2024 Indian Premier League. Since his 2018 acquisition by the Capitals for INR 1.2 crore, Shaw has been a member of the team. But because of the injury, he has been sidelined from multiple competitions, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20. The 24-year-old also had a disappointing season in the IPL 2023, managing just 106 runs in eight matches at a meager strike rate of 124.71 and an average of 13.25, with just one half-century to his credit. Many people felt that his time with DC was over after his dismal season, which attracted a lot of criticism. Nonetheless, it appears that the franchise has faith in the young player.
Shaw has participated in five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I during his international career. He has scored 528 runs in those games. With 71 matches under his belt and 13 half-centuries, the right-hander’s IPL record stands at 1694 runs at an astounding strike rate of 145.78. Having fallen behind in the race owing to injuries and lack of form, he would hope that a strong season for Delhi Capitals in the competition could be his ticket back into the international side.
Shardul Thakur, an Indian all-rounder that the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired from the Delhi Capitals in a deal in 2023, would not be playing for the new team. Thakur is still the most expensive player to be traded in league history, having received INR 10.75 crore. However, he was released by KKR shortly after the season because to his lackluster performance, which included 113 runs at a low average of 14.13 and just seven wickets at an unspectacular economy of 10.46 in 11 games.
