An image of Australian batsman Mitchell Marsh placing his foot on the trophy went viral on social media following Australia’s defeat in the Cricket World Cup final on Sunday. Many users expressed disapproval of Marsh’s actions, saying that he had degraded the game and the award. The World Cup’s top wicket-taker, Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami, expressed his displeasure with the gesture.

He said that witnessing someone disregard the trophy that every team strives for wounded him. Marsh’s action undoubtedly made him unhappy. Mohammed Shami further disclosed that he doesn’t inspect the field prior to a game. The pacer would have rather seen how it performed when he bowled on the designated field.

“I’m wounded. “Having my foot on the trophy that every team in the world fights for, the trophy you want to hold above your head—did not make me happy,” Mohammed Shami told reporters on Thursday.

“When bowlers arrive at the ground, they usually inspect the pitch. I never approach the wicket because only after you bowl on it will you be able to determine its behavior. So why succumb to the pressure? You would only play better if you kept things simple and remained at ease, Shami stated in a talk with PUMA India.

In addition, he discussed his first World Cup absence from the Indian playing XI and that it was critical to have a good mental toughness when missing games. Mohammed Shami had taken 24 wickets in just 7 matches, finishing the tournament as the leading wicket-taker.

“You have to have mental toughness to miss four games. Even though you are under pressure occasionally, it makes you feel good to see the team working effectively and moving in the right direction,” he continued.

India and the Australian squad are presently engaged in a five-match Twenty20 International series. India defeated Australia by two wickets in today’s opening series encounter at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, marking a successful start to the series.
