India went on to defeat New Zealand by an overwhelming 70 runs in the first semi-final of the 2023 World Cup. Before the match began, there were rumors that the host country had changed the pitch for the crucial match. They were eager to play on the field of their choice rather than the newly prepared one used for the semifinal. Shubman Gill, an Indian cricket player, discussed the same issue at his news conference after the game and said he didn’t know the full story.

“I recently learned that the pitch was the subject of dispute. In his post-match press conference, Shubman Gill questioned, “What was the controversy?” Outlook cited him.

If I hadn’t experienced cramps, I would have received my hundred: Shubman Gill

Regarding the semi-final game, Rohit Sharma and Gill once again struck the mark in providing India with a great start. Nevertheless, Gill’s performance at Wankhede was hampered by severe cramps as he attempted to get his first World Cup century. While India amassed a huge 397 runs against New Zealand, Gill withdrew at 79*.

Even though Shubman Gill came back into the game later on, the conditions of the match prevented him from reaching his century, as he finished his innings with eight fours and three sixes to finish on 80* runs. India will not participate in the ODI World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad on November 19.

“If I hadn’t experienced cramps, I would have received my 100. Whether or not I scored a hundred, we were still able to reach the target total, which was what we had actually hoped for about the 25th or 30th over. It doesn’t matter if I received a hundred or not since we made that many,” Gill continued.
