His name, which combines the well-known surnames of Indian batting greats Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, is what’s making waves and gives his incredible trip a fascinating new meaning.
The teenage sensation revealed the origin of his unusual name in an open conversation with the official World Cup broadcaster. According to his father, a Bengaluru native who emigrated to New Zealand, his wife originally suggested the name. It’s interesting that they realized afterwards that it inadvertently combined the fabled names of Sachin and Rahul. This joyful revelation highlighted the coincidental nature of the cricketer’s name.
“My spouse proposed the name Rachin Ravindra at the time of his birth, and we didn’t give it much thought. We chose to go with the name since it sounded good, was short, and simple to spell. We didn’t realize for a few years later that the name was a combination of Rahul and Sachin’s names. The Print quoted Ravi Krishnamurthy, the father of Ravindra, as saying, “He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort.”

Even though Ravindra wasn’t originally given the moniker Rachin Ravindra in honour of Tendulkar and Dravid, he quickly made his mark on cricket history. In terms of most World Cup runs and hundreds by the age of 25, he has already surpassed a few of Tendulkar’s records. At the moment, he has 565 runs, which puts him third in the run-scoring rankings, behind only South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and India’s Virat Kohli.
