Hardik Pandya

Due to an ankle injury, India’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign took a major blow as all-round sensation Hardik Pandya was forced to miss the rest of the competition.

On October 19, during India’s match against Bangladesh, Hardik Pandya attempted to stop a ball from going to the boundary off his own bowling and injured his left ankle. Following the incident, he hobbled off the field and was unable to play in the games against New Zealand, England, and Sri Lanka. The Baroda all-rounder’s inability to recover in time has now resulted in his elimination from the competition for the duration.

On Saturday, November 4, the Event Technical Committee of the competition accepted Prasidh Krishna, a young pacer from Karnataka, to take Pandya’s place in the Indian side. On Sunday, November 5, in Kolkata’s famous Eden Gardens, India will play South Africa. Krishna will be available for selection.

Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I’ll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I’m sure we’ll… pic.twitter.com/b05BKW0FgL

In place of Hardik Pandya, Prasidh Krishna was called in.

After Hardik was injured, the Indian squad named pacer Prasidh Krishna as the all-round player’s substitute. The event technical committee of the competition gave Krishna the go-ahead on Saturday, November 4, and he is now available for selection.

At the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue’s next matchup is against the defending champion South Africa. On Sunday, November 5, the 37th game of the season, both teams will be in the spotlight at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India has yet to lose in seven matches played in the competition, while the Proteas have only suffered one defeat.
