Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has made a perceptive comparison between the skill of the Indian cricket squad at the World Cup 2023 and that of the unbeatable Australian team that won the tournament in back-to-back years in 2003 and 2007.

As India continues its flawless six-match winning run, Watson drew comparisons between Rohit Sharma‘s Men in Blue and Ricky Ponting’s powerful Australian side, emphasizing their mutual capacity to dominate opponents with ease and project strength on the international scene.

Watson has expressed his respect for the Indian team in an exclusive interview with ‘Times of India’. He has stated that the team has an aura comparable to the powerful Australian teams of the past. “There’s a similar aura about them,” Watson stressed. “Like the unbeatable Australian squads from the 2003 and 2007 World Cups, this side has no weaknesses at all. This team is full of elite, world-class match-winners, much like that Australian side.”

To compete with this Indian team, a team must be at its very best – Shane Watson

Watson’s analysis highlighted the Indian team’s strong performance in the current World Cup. They have defeated Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England with convincing ease, securing their place as the front-runners for the coveted trophy. “This idea struck me after two games when I saw the Indian team’s balance and the players’ form. They simply haven’t stopped playing, and they have a very good chance of winning the tournament. To take on this Indian team, a team must be at its very best,” he said.

All eyes will be on Team India’s match against Sri Lanka on Thursday, November 2, in Mumbai. The team is looking to make history in cricket and win their third World Cup after winning tournaments in 1983 and 2011. Rohit Sharma’s team is ready to put on yet another strong show as they look to build on their winning run and move closer to the semifinals, securing their place as one of the competition’s most dangerous teams.
