“Motty isn’t the one entering the field.” – Dawid Malan defends the head coach after England’s terrible performance.

"It has been frustrating from players' point of view because we know we're better than that," remarked Dawid Malan.

For the England team led by Jos Buttler, the ODI World Cup 2023 has been very unexpected. After six games played in the competition thus far, the reigning champions have only been victorious in one of those games. With just two points from six games, their current form has them in tenth position in the rankings.

But other people have come out to expose the team’s shortcomings, with much of the blame falling on England’s head coach, Matthew Mott. The World Cup performances of the England team have put the coach’s job in jeopardy. Star English opener Dawid Malan defended head coach Mott when he was under fire, saying that the players should take the blame for the team’s performance in the competition.

“It is not Morty who is entering the field. Everything we require to function is being provided for us. Everything is being done as usual, including the facilities and the work, we just haven’t been able to find a method to put wins on the board.

From a players’ perspective, it has been aggravating because we know we can do better, Dawid Malan said BBC Sport.

“As players, we need to take responsibility when we cross that rope. I’m not involved in the selection or any of those things, so I don’t know how that works or who is in charge of all that,” he continued.

Malan also came forth to say that everyone involved always takes the heat when one side fails. He did, however, add that the English camp is still in a very good mood despite the terrible results, and the reigning champions will try to get better in the next World Cup 2023 games.

“There will always be questions asked of people when you don’t perform well enough as a team; it’s something that comes with the territory. It may be the players, captain, selectors, coach, or anyone else. Runs on the board are the only way to alter that story. However, the camp is still in a really positive mood. Malan remarked, “It still feels like all the boys are together.”
