Many events from the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 came to light after South Africa defeated Pakistan in game 26. These situations were labeled as contentious. The same thing happened when top batter Aiden Markram walked way out of the crease but was not removed.
Haris Rauf hit a short ball that bounced right into the clutches of wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan, missing Markram. Aiden Markram smiled, bowed his head to the ground, and walked up the pitch, making careful to tap his foot in the crease.
Rizwan under-armed the ball back towards Rauf and the wickets at the same time, and Aiden Markram was well out of his comfort zone when it struck the stumps.
But since the Pakistani team did not file an appeal, the ace batter was not awarded. Moreover, it was unclear if the fielding side thought the ball was in play or not. Even if the ball would have been deemed dead, Markram would still have been safe.
