Mahmudullah of Bangladesh believes that he may have taken a little too much time off prior to being selected for the country’s ODI team for the current ICC World Cup. during his exclusion during the home series against England earlier this year, the seasoned hitter made his ODI comeback during the home series against New Zealand after spending six months in the wilderness.
The national selection committee described his absence as “rest,” but many believed Mahmudullah’s career was all but ended because the team management was anxious to advance new players in order to get ready for the World Cup.
Mahmudullah was reinstated by the national team management after the young players’ repeated failures, although up until the South Africa game, he was batting below No. 6. Making a statement at the Wankhede Stadium with his fourth ODI century, Mahmudullah made it count.
“I’m unable to comment on that period of time (when I was not a member of the national team). After the game, Mahmudullah remarked, “I do want to talk about a lot of things, but now is not the moment to talk about such things. “I’m not sure. Most likely, Allah has given me the stamina to continue. I made an effort to maintain my fitness. I persisted in putting in a lot of effort. All I can do is that. I just have the ability to state that I wished to help the squad. In order for us to win the game, I would have liked to contribute more.
“I feel like I got a little too much rest. I had no power over it. The management of the team made the choice. For myself and the squad, it will do if I can perform my duties honestly, he remarked.
Mahmudullah continued, saying he doesn’t feel bad about batting eighth instead of his preferred position because the team management chose to send him there.
I have experienced many ups and downs during the course of my work. It’s okay to (bat down the order),” he said.
“Coach informed me yesterday that I was batting at No. 6,” I went there and participated in my game. I skipped going for my hundred. Simply batting, I was. You simply bat. I just wanted to try and score some runs for the team,” he added, adding that he wanted to dedicate this century to his family and thank everyone who has supported and criticized him at this pivotal point in his career.
