When Brisbane Heat’s opener Grace Harris hit a six with a broken cricket bat during their WBBL match against the Perth Scorchers at North Sydney Oval, it was a breathtaking scene. This amazing occurrence happened during the second delivery of the 14th over, which was bowled by Piepa Cleary.
Harris’s amazing ability to predict the result even before the ball left the bowler’s hand increased the suspense. She jokingly suggested that she might be in the market for a new cricket bat during the conversation, making reference to a supposedly damaged handle. Harris, the Brisbane Heat’s first player, was a striking example of her prowess, turning in the best individual performance in WBBL history. After being left out of the most recent T20I series, she dominated with an unbeaten 136 off only 59 balls on Sunday at North Sydney Oval, leading the Heat to a commanding 7-229 and giving national selectors more to think about.
The 229 points scored by the Brisbane Heat were the second-highest total in WBBL history. The right-handed batter needed only 48 pitches to reach a century, and her remarkable innings included a staggering 12 fours and a record-breaking 11 sixes. She joined the elite ranks of Alyssa Healy and Sophie Devine, both of the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers, as the third player in the WBBL to reach this milestone with her third century.
