ODI World Cup 2023: Kane Williamson will get his injured thumb scanned

New Zealand has so far had quite the treat thanks to the ODI World Cup 2023. The current competition leaders, the 2019 finals, are undefeated, and the team has crushed its three games thus far. The quantity of injuries the club has experienced, though, is something that has worried them. The Black Caps were missing the services of star batsman Kane Williamson for the first two games. However, the team had its skipper back and in good shape for their third World Cup encounter against Bangladesh.

The Black Caps delivered an outstanding performance in their pursuit of 246. Williamson scored 78 runs in 107 deliveries, which was an excellent knock.

However, during the run chase, a throw from Taskin Ahmed struck Kane Williamson on the left thumb, which was a setback.

After taking the hit and batting for a few balls before retiring sore, Kane Williamson went off the field. The 33-year-old will undergo scans on October 14 night, and if he emerges with a broken thumb, the World Cup 2023 could very well be over for the captain of New Zealand.

Shakib Al Hasan was also injured and had scans.

Along with New Zealand, Bangladesh, their opponents, also suffered a serious setback when captain Shakib Al Hasan hurt himself. The 36-year-old was absent throughout Bangladesh’s recent defeat against New Zealand’s final seconds.

Shakib had a quad injury when racing for a single in the first innings, and he also experienced cramping during the game. Standing-in skipper Najmul Shanto informed Shakib that he will also be taken for scans on October 14 after he missed the game’s closing moments. The medical professionals won’t be able to determine the severity of his damage until after that. The squad will be hoping that it is nothing serious because the captain unquestionably ranks among the team’s most seasoned and important players.
