A stunning victory over Afghanistan at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala marks Bangladesh 2023 ODI World Cup debut.

Shakib Al Hasan, the skipper, won the toss and choose to bowl first. Mehidy Hasan Miraz stepped up to limit Afghanistan to 156 runs. Three wickets each for each of the spinners is encouraging for their future.

On the other side, Afghanistan’s bowlers appeared to be below average. With Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hussain Shanto each scoring a half-century, the Bangla Tigers dominated the batting match. Shakib attempted to speed up at the end and scored 14 runs before returning to the pavilion. The team will be happy with their performance overall.

Discussion points for the game:

Afghan hitters are annihilated by the spin twins Shakib and Mehidy.

The Afghan hitters had no notion how to handle Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan. The cricketers completely destroyed the Afghan batting order, each taking three wickets. They should feel very confident going into their upcoming game against England as a result of this.

Mehidy follows Shanto’s lead and does the same with the bat.

Mehidy Hasan performs the same feat with the bat as he does with the ball. The all-rounder contributed a valuable 97-run partnership and a half-century to Bangladesh victory. Shanto also scored fifty, helping Bangladesh win by a comfortable six wickets.

Unsuitable for hosting international cricket

There was no denying that the ground at HPCA Stadium didn’t resemble a venue in another country. The players were hesitant to dive and recover the bowl for fear that they would injure themselves or be covered in sand. In the future, BCCI and ICC must deal with this issue.

Hashmatullah Shahidi, the departing skipper, said:

We got off to a good start, but our subsequent shot choices were poor. Although I believe we fought hard, the result was insufficient. anticipating the upcoming game. We must ensure that the same mistake doesn’t occur again by learning from our past mistakes.

Shakib Al Hasan, the winning captain, said:

I’m quite pleased with how we played. We thought we could get a wicket and get back in. Few players found it easy, but we were pleased with our batting and bowling performances. Here, we have been practicing. If we wish to succeed, we must adjust to these circumstances. We have three to four fast bowlers that have the ability to turn a game. He has been performing admirably. Another one is Shanto, who constantly strives to do well for the group.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, POTM, said:

I’ve put in a lot of effort in the past, so this is a wonderful occasion for me. The management of the team deserves praise for having faith in me. I was a little apprehensive, but the captain instructed me to bowl where it was needed. He advised me to maintain consistency and pay attention to my own performance, so praise the captain. I played it ball by ball and ignored the runs.

Although the wicket was turning a little, I attempted to play steadily. It’s a terrific opportunity for me to bat at the top of the order since I’ve always batted at position 8. In the most recent games, they tested me at the head of the order, and it’s a terrific opportunity for me.
