Maheesh Theekshana, Sri Lanka’s premier spinner, will not play in his country’s opening 2023 World Cup match against South Africa, which is a major setback for Sri Lanka. Maheesh Theekshanawas initially selected for Sri Lanka‘s World Cup roster with confidence in his physical condition; however, he was unable to travel to India to train with the team, raising questions about his availability.
Unfortunately, it has been determined that Maheesh Theekshana will be unable to play a day before the significant match against South Africa.
In addition to weakening Sri Lanka’s spin unit, this injury blow deprives them of the services of its spin twins. Hasaranga, who was originally left off of the World Cup roster, may only be taken into consideration as a substitute if he heals before the competition is over.
Theekshana has been an important player for Sri Lanka, claiming 44 wickets in 27 games at a commendable average of 23.45, which falls to 17.45 this year. His middle-over connection with Hasaranga has been a powerful tool for the club, thus their absence is a major setback.
